Cursive

So on Wednesday myself, Daniel, Rachael, Peter and Bob travelled to Newcastle-upon-Tyne to the o2 academy to see the band Cursive. It was incredible if not just for Tim Kasher, Cursive’s front man, going a bit mental and climbing the tallest amp to play his encore. Precarious. Before we went to the venue we had the task of finding a coffee shop that was open. This turned out to be more difficult than it is down south.

We got there early and perched ourselves right at the front on the railing. Pleasingly close. The support consisted of one 7 man band who I didn’t catch the name of and a band called popup from Glasgow. The first band had a violinist who smiled a lot and also a trumpet player who would on occasion crack out a xylaphone for 10 second bursts. Then popup had a go whos lead guitarist decided to converse with me half way through his set. I think he thought he had bullied me because he did apologise a lot, thanked me specially for coming and shook my hand after their last song/ I did feel slightly special.

But all of that was frankly preamble for the majesty of Tim Kasher and his band. You have to understand that this man is quite demonic. His eyes tend to go a bit freakish during songs, and he likes to swing his guitar fairly near our faces sometimes. But no one minds. I’m sure Daniel would consider it an honour to have his skull partially destroyed by Tim’s guitar.

My Destination of the Month

Currently on the crosscountry homepage they’re displaying their ‘destination of the month’ as Berwick-upon-Tweed. This is interesting to me because Berwick-upon-Tweed is my destination of the month. On Tuesday i’m once again making that most special of journeys, to the town where practically nothing changes. The town where the fondest memories of my youth come flooding back on every street corner. And where drunken nights end with surrealistic film making sessions:

The Answering Machine

Manchester produces good bands. This is just a fact. Like saying that Swindon has lots of roundabouts.

This band is called The Answering Machine and this video for ‘obviously cold’ makes me smile.

Expenses

The current public uproar concerning MP’s expenses and the accompanying media coverage is beginning to tire me. Nethertheless…

I did some work for the company in Basingstoke recently. Now, am I the sort of person to claim back the cost of the bus ticket I had to buy – I was too lazy to get out of bed on time – to the train station, even though when I walk to work I stroll straight past it? Yes. Yes I am.

I also recently went to a conference in Reading. Now, am I the sort of person to claim back the excess I had to pay because I was stupid enough to buy a ticket with a 16-25 rail card even though I didn’t have it with me? Yes. Yes I am.

I think I agree with Stephen Fry.

Rugby Town

Everything started in Rugby town. My life and this blog. Everything. My brother and I went to Topman today. I felt like Gok Wan. The girls remembered my brother from the other week when he bought shoes. ‘yeah I remember he took a long time choosing…’ We came out with three polo shirts. Layering has arrived.

Rugby has changed

the willow tree has been cut down.
spinnerdisc shut
the health food shop shut
summersault got big

Woolworths in now a massive 99p store of which there seem to be many of in Rugby now.

I'd like one cup of nostalgia please.
